Shenandoah National Park is a scenic wilderness area in Virginia's Blue Ridge Mountains, known for its panoramic views, waterfalls, and diverse wildlife.
Skyline Drive is a 105-mile scenic highway that runs the entire length of Shenandoah National Park. It offers breathtaking views of the Blue Ridge Mountains, lush forests, and abundant wildlife. There are numerous overlooks and hiking trails along the drive, making it a must-see for visitors to the park.
Old Rag Mountain is one of the most popular hiking destinations in the park. The challenging 9-mile loop trail takes hikers through rocky terrain, past stunning viewpoints, and through a narrow rock scramble known as the "chimney." The summit offers panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and valleys.
Dark Hollow Falls is a picturesque waterfall located near mile marker 50 on Skyline Drive. The trail to the falls is a moderate 1.4-mile round trip hike that descends into a lush forested ravine. The 70-foot cascade is especially beautiful after a heavy rain.
Stony Man Mountain is one of the highest peaks in the park and offers stunning panoramic views from its summit. The 1.6-mile round trip hike to the top is relatively easy and suitable for hikers of all skill levels. The rocky outcrop at the summit is a popular spot for watching the sunset.
While not technically part of Shenandoah National Park, Luray Caverns is a popular nearby attraction that is worth a visit. The caverns feature stunning underground formations, including towering stalactites and stalagmites, as well as an underground lake. Guided tours are available daily.
