A lot has happened this 4th of July 2025
This was an interesting long weekend with my first local pub-crawl, Trump's Big Beautiful Bill signed, Elon Musk jabbering about a new political party, and some good home-cooked-eats, and the installation of a home water softener.
To start with, on a personal front, my wife and I went on a mini-pub-crawl to a couple of local restaraunts/breweries. It was a fun time with fun (not so health) happy-hour food.Mini Pub Crawl
After work and some obligations, we went on a mini-pub-crawl in Brea. Good beer and good bar food - what could be better than that?
Big Beautiful Bill Passed
To my amazement, President Donald Trump was able to get this bill passed. Whether you like it or not, it was quite an incredible feat!
Here is his strategy for passing it
Trump used a combination of relentless public messaging, behind-the-scenes deal-making, and pressure on key lawmakers to push the bill through. He framed it as a “must-pass” for the American people, rallied support from influential voices in conservative media, and wasn’t afraid to call out or praise members of Congress by name. Timing also played a key role, as he capitalized on a moment of momentum and division within the opposition.
Here is a summary of what is in the bill
The bill includes sweeping provisions aimed at economic reform and infrastructure renewal. Some of the major elements include:
- Tax Cuts: Reductions for individuals and corporations, especially small businesses.
- Infrastructure Spending: Over $800 billion allocated to roads, bridges, energy, and broadband projects.
- Regulatory Rollbacks: Loosening of federal regulations in housing, energy, and agriculture.
- Border Security: Significant funding for new technology, personnel, and physical barriers at the southern border.
- Healthcare Provisions: Modifications to health savings accounts and insurance market rules.
- Education & Jobs Training: Expanded funding for vocational education and apprenticeships.

Elon Musk Threatens to Start a New Political Party: America Party
In a move that stunned both political insiders and Twitter/X followers alike, Elon Musk has publicly floated the idea of launching a new political party — the "America Party." Whether it's a genuine political pivot or another bold Musk-style provocation remains to be seen. But one thing is clear: he’s not happy with either side of the aisle.
Why is Elon doing this?
Musk has grown increasingly vocal about his dissatisfaction with both Democrats and Republicans. He’s called out what he sees as censorship, overregulation, and political polarization. In his view, the current two-party system is broken — more interested in power than in solving real problems. The America Party, as he frames it, would be a tech-forward, pro-innovation, free-speech, centrist alternative.
What would the America Party stand for?
While no formal platform exists yet, based on Musk’s public comments and tweets, the party might prioritize:
- Free Speech: Absolute defense of open platforms and anti-censorship.
- Innovation and Technology: Support for AI, space exploration, and clean energy — with fewer bureaucratic hurdles.
- Limited Government: Leaner federal oversight with more emphasis on individual autonomy.
- Meritocracy: A belief that talent, not identity, should drive opportunity and leadership.
- Election Reform: Push for transparency and modern systems (blockchain voting?)
Is this serious?
It’s hard to say. Musk has a history of launching bold ideas — some succeed wildly, others fade. But in today’s volatile political climate, even a speculative third-party move from someone with his platform and resources could send shockwaves. If he were to pour billions into this, as he has with Tesla, SpaceX, and Twitter/X — it could get real very fast.
Final Thoughts
Whether it’s a warning shot at the establishment or a realignment of American politics, Elon Musk’s "America Party" idea taps into a growing frustration many voters feel. Keep an eye on this one. The 2028 election might just get weirder.
