This is one of the most influential books that I have ever read. I first bought it on October 3, 2020, but I didn't take it to heart until March 2023, when I re-read it and along with some other things, my life was completely transformed. Here are my book notes:
My Main Takeaways
- As a society we have continued to get health sciences wrong (Ex. Eggs are Good, Eggs Are Bad), and most individuals fail to take our own health seriously.
- Most people lack an understanding over very important nutritional and health concepts such as Insulin Resistance.
- Caloric Reduction inevitably leads to Decrease Caloric Expenditure, causing all diets to fail. (Page 41). Decreased caloric intake can decrease basal metabolic rate by up to 40 percent..... increased caloric intake can increase it by 50 percent. (Page 53)
- The Body Set Weight is a very unique phenomenon. The body wants to keep it's set weight. (Page 61)
- Insulin Levels determine Body Set Weight. High Insulin levels causes obesity. (Page 86-88)
- Snacking causes higher average insulin levels. (Charts Page 120 and 122)
- To break the insulin-resistance cycle, we mush have recurrent periods of very low insulin levels. (Page 236)

Part 1
This is where Jason Fung goes into how Obesity became a worldwide problem, and definitely a problem in the United States. Just look around and you will see how overweight our society is. What we all should come to realize is that being overweight is VERY UNHEALTHY for us, and there are things we can do to reverse this.
Part 2
Now we get to how wrong the simple equation is of Calories In minus Calories Out equals Weight Gained or Lost. I remember defending this equation with a passion when discussing this with my Niece Hope when she was at my house for dinner some time in early 2023. Now I feel pretty stupid - not the first time and certainly not the last time.....
Part 3
This section describes some of the science behind how our body works, focusing on Insulin, Cortisol, Low Carb Diets, and Insulin Resistance, what Jason calls THE MAJOR PLAYER.
Part 4
The Social Phenomenon of Obesity
Part 5
What's Wrong with our Diet
Part 4
The long awaited Chapter: THE SOLUTION
