There have been some business changes at my work, so I needed to talk to our insurance broker, who I haven't talked to in a few years. I know he had previously had a heart attack, so I wasn't even sure what his role was at his company anymore. Here is how our conversation went.
We talked business for about 20 minutes going over the current situation. Near the end of the call I asked him how he was doing. He replied "My doctor keeps telling me I should lose weight. I know I am still overweight, but I don't ever do anything about it". We went into our conversation a bit further and he asked me how I was doing.
My Story
I love to tell my Health Story. What I really like about it is that my story is not over - in fact it is far from it. I told him about the changes at my work, that at first I was not really happy about, but how after some time, I began to really enjoy what I was doing again. I then went on to explain that I observed firsthand how my father struggled with Parkinson's Disease for over 10 years, and how my mother-in-law has been sliding down the Dimentia slide for about 3 years now to the point that she is almost ready for full-time care or going into a care facility. I told him how I wanted by HealthSpan and LifeSpan to be about the same number...... then I waited. He didn't really ask me many specifics, but then he shared more information about himself.
Bob Shared More Information
After my prompting, Bob, age 68 shared how he had had THREE HEART ATTACKS, and had experienced firsthand the terrible disease that we call Dimentia in close relatives..... And he is still overweight. Now as I look in the mirror, I realize I am no different. Why do we let this happen to ourselves?
I have ignored being healthy for most of my life, and in some ways it is too late for me at the age of 55, as some damage has been done. But in other ways, I can correct some of the things in my life RIGHT NOW, and prevent further deterioration in my health for my years to come.
My top weight was 189 pounds a few years back, and my current weight got stuck just under 170 pounds. I have been there for a couple months now. I want to be healthy in all aspect of the word - so I am determined to take My Health seriously, so that I will be able to experience more healthy years with my family, and to see more beautiful sunsets like the one I saw here back on June 3, 2023 in North Dakota......
