Results of My 45 Hour Fast

1/27/2024
I had a nice sushi dinner and some drinks around 8:00pm Wednesday night. I did not eat any food on Thursday, only having coffee, my usual detox tea, two scoops of Bloom, and a multivitamin. I woke up this morning and decide to take some tests. My current audiobook is Outlive and hopefully will convince me to start taking my fitness seriously. Peter Attia, author of Outlive believes in testing, testing, testing. I think he is right. When we do things in our life we should verify them right? Here are my results.....

At 36 Hours - Finally in Ketosis

I woke up feeling good, and surprisingly not too hungry. I was going to have breakfast, but instead I decided to take some bloot tests to determine my Ketone Body level, my Blood Glucose, and my Blood Pressure. My Ketone reading of 0.5 means that I am in slight ketosis. A keto reading of 0.5 refers to the concentration of ketone bodies in the blood, specifically 0.5 millimoles per liter (mmol/L). This level indicates the beginning of nutritional ketosis, a metabolic state where the body uses fat for energy instead of carbohydrates. Nutritional ketosis is considered "light" through 1.0 mmol/L and "optimal" in the 1.0-3.0 mmol/L range, with 0.5-3.0 mmol/L being the optimal range for weight loss. Blood ketone levels at or above 0.5 mmol/L are a good indicator of being in nutritional ketosis. Last time I fasted and took this reading a few months ago, my reading was only 0.2, which meant that my fast really wasn't that effective. Today I got much better results.

Fasting Blood Glucose of 99

A fasting glucose level of 99 mg/dL is considered normal. However, according to a population-based study, a fasting plasma glucose level in the range of 90-99 mg/dL was associated with an increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes. The study demonstrated that the risk of type 2 diabetes progressively increases with an increasing level of fasting plasma glucose concentration in this range. Additionally, the CDC indicates that a fasting blood sugar level of 99 mg/dL or lower is considered normal.

Blood Pressure 137 SYS / 88 DIA

WELL THAT SUCKS

A blood pressure reading of 137 systolic and 88 diastolic is categorized as "elevated" or "prehypertension." According to the American Heart Association, a systolic blood pressure between 120-129 and a diastolic blood pressure less than 80 is considered elevated, while a blood pressure of 130/80 to 139/89 is now considered Stage 1 hypertension. High blood pressure, or hypertension, is defined as a systolic blood pressure of 140 or above and/or a diastolic blood pressure of 90 or above. Therefore, a reading of 137/88 falls within the prehypertension range, indicating the need for lifestyle modifications to prevent the development of high blood pressure

Hour 41 - More Readings

I was upset this morning that my blood pressure was high. I had taken this after walking about 0.6 miles, and after drawing blood for the fasting glucose number and the ketone bodies number, so that might have elevated things. So I drove home from work and took 3 readings, having my arm elevated at chest level (sitting down at a table with my arm on a bucket). These readings were considerably better, but my faith in home blood pressure tests is a bit shaken.

Fasting Glucose and Ketone Bodies

My fasting glucose came down to 95 (this is at hour 41).

My Ketone Bodies remained the same at 0.5.
