Today Is The First Day of the Rest of My Life!

1/26/2024
Of course it is! We only live forward, so today is the first day that will determine your future. For me, today is the first day I am going to work on my Fitness. This last year I focused on Nutrition. Now it is time to close the really big gap of Fitness, which I really do not like doing, and have not made this a priority for most of my life.

I Have Always Known Fitness Is Important

Unfortunately, with all my education in science and engineering, and learning how to and running a successful business, I failed to make fitness a priority. Now that I am in my mid-fifties, it is time to take this more seriously. I have lost some weight, but my blood pressure reading this mording was still lower than I want it at 137/88. I have not been consistent with my food and alcohol, and I have not done anything about actually dedicating time to fitness. It will be obvious how I do with this in the days to come..

Some Reasons People Don't Take Fitness Seriously

I asked my friend what she thought were our best excuses.....

There are several reasons why many people might not prioritize fitness as a serious aspect of their lives. These reasons can vary widely depending on individual circumstances, societal norms, and personal beliefs. Some of the common factors include:

Lack of Time: Many people lead busy lives with demanding jobs, family responsibilities, and other time-consuming tasks, making it challenging to find time for regular exercise.

Lack of Knowledge or Misinformation: Some individuals may not be fully aware of the benefits of fitness or may have misconceptions about how to exercise effectively and safely.

Lack of Motivation: Without a strong personal motivation or goal, it can be hard to sustain a regular fitness routine. This motivation can be diminished by factors like lack of immediate results, previous failures, or not enjoying the activities.

Economic Factors: Gym memberships, home exercise equipment, and participation in fitness classes can be expensive. Economic barriers can make it difficult for some people to access these resources.

Physical Limitations: Health issues, disabilities, or injuries can limit the ability to participate in certain types of physical activities.

Cultural and Social Factors: In some cultures or social groups, there may be less emphasis on physical fitness, or there may be cultural norms that discourage certain types of exercise.

Mental Health Challenges: Mental health issues like depression or anxiety can significantly impact motivation and energy levels, making it difficult to engage in physical activity.

Preference for Sedentary Activities: With the rise of digital entertainment and the internet, more people spend their leisure time in sedentary activities like watching TV, playing video games, or browsing the web.

Lack of Supportive Environment: Without support from family, friends, or a community, it can be challenging to maintain a fitness routine. This support can range from having a workout buddy to living in an area with safe and accessible places to exercise.

Perception of Fitness: Some people may view fitness as a luxury or a superficial concern rather than a key component of health and wellbeing.

Understanding these barriers is the first step in addressing them, both on an individual level and within communities and societies. Fitness is a multifaceted issue that intersects with lifestyle choices, socio-economic status, health, and cultural values.
