Responsive Web Design

July 22, 2023
Back in the early days of the internet, the company I was a parter in owned over 1000 websites and we created hundreds of websites in what I called webrings. If we were selling 'purple widgets', we would try to buy the website purplewidgets.com and back in the early days, this was a huge advantage to rank 1st in the search engine result pages and get traffic to your website. This eventually wasn't effective on Google, but still worked well with Bing and Yahoo, then Bing and Yahoo changed things to this advantage was greatly reduced. I was using templates that I had created that were to me, quite easy to program and manage. Two things changed that affected my template: 1. Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) were starting to be widely used. 2. Smartphones were starting to be widely used. Websites needed to be responsive, and as things progressed with the different sized devices, newer techniques started to be necessary. HTML5 went into affect, and if your website was not responsive, Google penalized you keeping you low in their SERPs. So here I am today - July, 18, 2023, and I have begun in earnest to create my new template that will be used for my Responsive Website. W3Schools.com has some great tools, so that is where I will start. My current goals: 1. Publish the blog posts 2. Create a simple responsive website, what I am calling Template2023. 3. Improve on the template as I see it take shape and get a clearer picture of the features I want and the challenges I have. 4. Figure out how to do the search on my website. This important to me as much as anyone that might come to my website.
