Lake Chelan-Sawtooth Wilderness

The Lake Chelan-Sawtooth Wilderness is a stunning wilderness area located in the North Cascade Mountains of Washington state. Encompassing over 153,000 acres, this wilderness area is known for its rugged terrain, alpine lakes, and diverse ecosystems. One of the most prominent features of the Lake Chelan-Sawtooth Wilderness is its namesake lake, Lake Chelan. This 55-mile long lake is one of the deepest in the United States and provides stunning views of the surrounding mountains. The wilderness area is also home to numerous other lakes, including Glacier Lake, which offers excellent fishing and camping opportunities. The diverse ecosystems within the Lake Chelan-Sawtooth Wilderness support a wide variety of plant and animal species. Visitors to the area may encounter black bears, mountain goats, mule deer, and a variety of bird species. The wilderness area is also home to a number of rare plant species, making it an important area for conservation. Hiking and backpacking are popular activities in the Lake Chelan-Sawtooth Wilderness, with numerous trails crisscrossing the area. The Pacific Crest Trail also passes through the wilderness, providing long-distance hikers with access to some of the most scenic areas in the North Cascades. Points of Interest

Lake Chelan

Lake Chelan is a stunningly beautiful glacier-fed lake that stretches for over 50 miles through the wilderness. Visitors can enjoy boating, fishing, and swimming in the crystal-clear waters of the lake. The surrounding mountains provide a picturesque backdrop for outdoor activities and exploration.

Stehekin Valley

Stehekin Valley is a remote and pristine area located at the northern end of Lake Chelan. Visitors can access the valley by boat or floatplane, and once there, they can explore the charming town of Stehekin, hike through old-growth forests, and marvel at the majestic peaks of the North Cascades.

Glacier Peak

Glacier Peak is the most prominent peak in the Lake Chelan-Sawtooth Wilderness, standing at over 10,000 feet. The peak is a popular destination for experienced hikers and climbers, offering challenging routes and breathtaking views of the surrounding wilderness.

Spider Gap

Colchuck Lake

Colchuck Lake is a stunning alpine lake located in the Enchantment Lakes region of the wilderness. Hikers can reach Colchuck Lake via a steep and rugged trail, but the views are well worth the effort.
