Haleakalā National Park is located on the island of Maui in Hawaii. The park is divided into two distinct areas: the summit district and the coastal Kīpahulu district.

Features

The summit district of the park is home to the Haleakalā volcano, which is a dormant volcano that last erupted in the late 1700s. The summit area reaches an elevation of over 10,000 feet and is known for its otherworldly landscape of volcanic cinder cones, lunar-like crater, and unique plant life. Visitors can watch the breathtaking sunrise from the summit, go hiking on one of the many trails, or camp in the designated campgrounds. The coastal Kīpahulu district of the park is lush and tropical, with waterfalls, bamboo forests, and a rugged coastline. The area is known for its diverse plant and animal life, including endangered species such as the Hawaiian monk seal and the Hawaiian petrel. Visitors can hike to the famous Waimoku Falls, swim in the Ohe'o Gulch pools, or explore the ancient Hawaiian ruins in the area.

Haleakalā Crater

The Haleakalā Crater is the most popular attraction in Haleakalā National Park. It is a massive volcanic crater that measures about 7 miles across, 2 miles wide, and 2,600 feet deep. Visitors can hike down into the crater, explore the unique landscapes, and witness the breathtaking sunrise or sunset views.

Pipiwai Trail

The Pipiwai Trail is a popular hiking trail in Haleakalā National Park that leads to the stunning Waimoku Falls. The trail is about 4 miles round trip and takes visitors through a bamboo forest, past a series of cascading waterfalls, and offers panoramic views of the coastline.

Hosmer Grove

Hosmer Grove is a unique forested area in Haleakalā National Park that offers a peaceful escape from the crowds. Visitors can take a leisurely stroll through the grove, enjoy a picnic, and observe the diverse plant and bird species that call this area home.

Visitor Centers

Haleakalā National Park has two visitor centers - the Summit Visitor Center and the Kīpahulu Visitor Center. These centers provide information on the park's history, geology, and wildlife, as well as guided ranger programs and educational exhibits. Visitors can also pick up maps, hiking permits, and souvenirs at the visitor centers.
